CREANEY PRIMARY SCHOOL
Students at Creaney Primary School begin learning Japanese as a second language from Year 3 onwards. The Japanese Languages program provides students with opportunities to develop the skills needed to communicate in a language other than English, while also building intercultural understanding and an appreciation of the role language and culture play in communication and connection.
Language learning broadens students’ horizons, supporting personal, social and future employment opportunities in an increasingly interconnected world. As countries and cultures become more closely linked, the ability to engage across languages and cultural perspectives is increasingly important. While English is widely used, developing bilingual or plurilingual capabilities is now recognised as a valuable and essential skill in many parts of the world.
The Western Australian Curriculum: Languages is based on the principle that learning to communicate in two or more languages is a rich and meaningful experience for all students. Through the program, students build their intercultural understanding and sense of identity as they explore their own linguistic, social and cultural practices, alongside those of Japanese language speakers.
