CREANEY PRIMARY SCHOOL
At Creaney Primary School, our Visual Arts program nurtures each child’s creativity, builds on their individual strengths and supports their interests. Students are encouraged to explore, experiment and refine their artistic skills through a variety of mediums and techniques. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists, we incorporate John Hattie’s Visible Learning approach, ensuring students are explicitly taught the skills they need to succeed and are provided with opportunities to apply and extend their learning.
Each lesson is designed to deepen students’ understanding of the Elements of Art through hands-on experiences such as drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and marbling. Students also have opportunities to incorporate Digital Technologies into their artwork, sharing their creations with families via Seesaw. This promotes reflection and strengthens the learning process, while also supporting the development of STEM-related skills and connections across learning areas.
In the Visual Arts classroom, students are encouraged to be Self-Directed, Inquisitive and Reflective—key learner dispositions within our school culture. They are supported to share their ideas, explore their creativity and engage in discussions about their work with peers. This fosters a positive, inclusive environment where students feel confident to take creative risks and extend their thinking.
Student artwork is proudly displayed throughout the school and shared within the wider community. We also participate in local competitions and events, such as those run by the City of Joondalup, providing opportunities for students to showcase their talents and celebrate their achievements.

The sounds of instruments being played, voices singing, and various styles of music echo through the school grounds, as students from Year 1 to Year 6 enjoy their weekly music lesson under the guidance of a Specialist Music teacher. Students are introduced to the art of responding to music of varying genres, and build on foundation skills to create musical masterpieces of their own.
The classroom program is further supported by our Instrumental Program, offering select Year 5 and 6 students the unique opportunity for group music lessons on flute, clarinet, trumpet and trombone. These students have weekly lessons and the opportunity to showcase their talents by performing in front of others.
Incursions such as Akwaaba African Drumming, Kaboom Percussion and local high school bands are organised to inspire, educate and entertain Creaney students.
Creaney Primary School is known for their excellent choir who represent the school at assemblies and in the wider community. Students sing at the annual One Big Voice concert at the RAC Arena where they share the experience of singing positive, uplifting and life affirming songs with thousands of students from around the state.

The Department of Education's Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) provides specialist music tuition across a range of instruments to over 400 primary and secondary schools throughout Western Australia. They provide consultancy, instrumental instruction and ensemble direction, staffing allocation and management, an instrumental loan process, maintenance and repair service, a resource centre and varied enrichment activities for students.
At Creaney Primary School, students in Years 5 and 6 are offered the opportunity to play clarinet, flute or brass based on a musical aptitude test undertaken in Year 4, together with enthusiasm and attitude towards music as demonstrated in music classes. Other factors considered in the selection process are the student's general attitude, their willingness to practice regularly and attend lessons. Free weekly lessons are conducted during school hours by specialist instrument teachers from IMSS.
